Wilberforce Fellowship 2024 - Law:
September 27-29

This 3 hour Zoom event is designed for men and women in the legal profession or in law school, who desire to incorporate their faith into their daily life as they serve.  Organized by Commissioner Tim Echols and Federal Judge Tim Batten, the three hour zoom will include an introduction to William Wilberforce, the great British MP, who was instrumental in abolishing the slave trade.  The event is sponsored by the Wilberforce Fellowship.

Judge Batten will kick off the event with a sobering message about the “evil” he sees every day in the culture, and why He believes William Wilberforce’s life and message still matters today.

The Summit is fast moving with short testimonies and messages from Dr. Michael McMullen, who holds the unpublished diaries or Wilberforce.  He’ll share about how Wilberforce was able to make “goodness” fashionable, or “politically correct” as we might say.

Professor Randy Beck teaches a course at UGA Law called Christian Perspectives on Legal Thought. He will discuss what the Book of Esther teaches about the shortcomings of human law and the providential justice of God.

Jon Tonge, his former law clerk, will discuss the lawsuit against Red Roof Inn for facilitating human trafficking.

Based on John 12:42-43, Georgia Supreme Court Justice, Nels Peterson, will give a brief talk that will encourage listeners to prioritize the approval of God, and guard their heart against adopting the world’s value system.

Judge Ken Wynne, also a Colson Fellow, will share “Restoring Shalom Through Justice.”

Attorney Emily Smith Matson will share how Wilberforce’s fight against slavery gave her inspiration to start Georgia Life Alliance.

Other attorneys sharing Wilberforce insights will be Matt Reeves, Thomas Hildebrandt, Ron Chicken, Dave Baker, Joel Thornton, Jeremy Hunt, Ted Echols, Perry McGuire, and Jason Downey.  Trey Alverson will also share.

Email Tim Echols at timothyechols@gmail.com for the zoom code. There is not cost.
